Chemin de la Corniche

The obvious one and still the best. From the eastern end near the Bock, the light hits the sandstone cliffs of Rham Plateau across the Alzette and turns the whole valley amber. Free, unfenced, always open. Arrive 20 minutes before sunset for the whole colour arc. Grab a takeaway coffee from Knopes on Rue du Curé beforehand.

Place de la Constitution and the Gëlle Fra

The Golden Lady memorial stands at the edge of the Pétrusse valley. Behind her, the sun drops behind the Adolphe Bridge — Luxembourg's most photographed structure. In late summer the light frames the bridge's arches perfectly. Follow up with a cocktail at Café des Artistes down in the Grund.

Pfaffenthal panoramic lift viewing platform

Ride the free lift up from Pfaffenthal to Ville Haute and step onto the small platform at the top. You get an aerial view over the viaduct and the whole eastern city. Best in autumn when the valley trees turn.

Kirchberg — the Philharmonie steps

Less obvious. From the steps of the Philharmonie at Kirchberg, the sun drops back toward the old town and lights up the twin towers of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame across the valley. A more contemporary framing. Combine with an evening concert.

Outside the city: Vianden Belvedere and Wormeldange vineyards

The Belvedere above Vianden Castle (reach via the $6 chairlift) catches the castle and the Our valley in golden light. Time your day trip to leave last thing. For a wine-country sunset, the Koeppchen chapel above the Wormeldange vineyards looks west over the Moselle and Germany — 15-minute walk from the village center.
