Remich sits on the Luxembourg bank of the Moselle river, which forms the German border here. The Esplanade — a broad riverside promenade lined with cafés and hotels — is the town's front door and the reason most visitors come: sit with a Riesling looking across at the vineyards on the German side, take an hour-long cruise, or walk south along the river to the Caves Saint Martin sparkling wine cellars carved into the hillside. The town center is small and mostly serves the tourists who come for the wine.

The Luxembourg Moselle produces respectable dry Rieslings and Auxerrois plus a lot of Crémant de Luxembourg (traditional-method sparkling wine that's often better value than Champagne). Wineries along the road between Remich, Wormeldange and Grevenmacher offer tastings; the Route du Vin between them is Luxembourg's short-and-sweet wine route. Suits wine-focused travelers, retirees, and anyone who wants a slower Moselle-valley pace. Skip if you want serious sightseeing — there isn’t much beyond the wine and the river.

Where to stay

Hotels along the Esplanade and a block or two inland, USD 90-170. Position directly on the Esplanade gives you the river view and cruise access; a block inland is quieter and cheaper. Summer weekends fill early; book ahead June-September. Winter is very quiet and half the restaurants close.

Getting there

No train station in Remich (the Moselle line was closed). Bus 175 from Luxembourg Gare runs every 30-60 minutes, about 45 minutes, free. From Findel airport, tram T1 to Gare then bus 175, about 65 minutes total. Buses along the Route du Vin connect Remich to Wormeldange, Grevenmacher and the other wine villages hourly.

Frequently asked questions

Is Luxembourg Moselle wine actually any good?

Yes for dry Riesling, Auxerrois and Crémant. The wines rarely reach the heights of nearby Mosel Germany, but the Crémant is consistently good value and the small-producer whites are genuinely worth trying. Avoid the mass-produced Elbling — it's the local everyday wine and it's thin.

Can I visit multiple wineries in a day without a car?

Yes — bus 175 stops at wineries along the Route du Vin between Remich, Stadtbredimus, Wormeldange and Grevenmacher. Cycling is faster and more flexible. A designated non-drinking driver is essential if you’re serious about tastings.
