Limpertsberg is the residential plateau immediately north of Ville Haute, connected by the Fondation Pescatore park and the Glacis parking area. Late-19th-century villas line avenue de la Faïencerie and avenue Pasteur, most now converted into embassies, law firms or discreet apartments. The old University of Luxembourg campus (now largely relocated to Esch-Belval) still keeps some faculties here, giving parts of the neighborhood a low-key student energy around Limpertsberg tram stop and Place des Martyrs.

It's a good compromise: 10 minutes' walk to Place d’Armes, 5 minutes to the tram, quiet at night, hotels USD 20-40 cheaper than the plateau. The Théâtre des Capucins runs a second stage here, and the Glacis field hosts the twice-monthly Sunday flea market (07:00-13:00, second and fourth Sundays) and the huge Schueberfouer funfair for three weeks every August-September. Skip if you want restaurants on your doorstep — dining here is thin outside a few Italian and Portuguese places on avenue de la Faïencerie.

Where to stay

Small hotels and guesthouses along avenue Pasteur and avenue de la Faïencerie, USD 110-170. You’re 8-12 minutes' walk to Hamilius or one tram stop. Avoid rooms overlooking Glacis during the Schueberfouer (mid-August to early September) unless you want funfair noise until midnight. The blocks around Limpertsberg tram stop and Place des Martyrs are ideal — quiet, walkable, cafés nearby.

Getting there

Tram T1 has two Limpertsberg stops: Limpertsberg and Theater. Both reach Hamilius in 2-4 minutes and Kirchberg in 10 minutes, free, every 6 minutes. Bus 12 also connects the neighborhood to the center. From Findel airport, tram T1 direct in 20-25 minutes. Walking to Ville Haute takes 10-15 minutes downhill via avenue Émile Reuter.
