Bonnevoie is directly southeast of Gare Centrale, on the other side of the tracks. It's residential, ethnically diverse, historically working-class and gradually gentrifying. Rue de Bonnevoie is the spine, running from the Rotondes down toward Place Léon XIII and the Bonnevoie church. You’ll find grocery stores catering to Portuguese, Balkan and African communities, a couple of decent Vietnamese pho places, and prices that are 20-30% below the center for basically everything.

There is essentially nothing 'to do' in Bonnevoie in the tourist sense. That's the point. It's where you stay if you want a real Luxembourg neighborhood feel, cheaper hotels, and don’t need to be in the old town every night. The Bonnevoie public pool on rue Anatole France is a proper 1930s Art Deco building still functioning as a swimming hall — USD 4 for entry, one of the best hidden urban experiences in the country.

Where to stay

A handful of small hotels and B&Bs along rue de Bonnevoie and around Place Léon XIII, USD 85-130. Bonnevoie-Verger and Rue de Hesperange tram stops connect to the center in 5-10 minutes. Avoid the industrial edge along rue Auguste Charles closer to the tracks — noisy and characterless. The blocks around the Bonnevoie church and the small Place Léon XIII square are the pleasantest, with a Saturday morning market and a couple of cafés open before 08:00.

Getting there

Tram T1 stops at Rotondes and Bonnevoie-Verger, connecting to Gare Centrale (5 minutes), old town (12 minutes) and airport (25 minutes). All free. Bus 4 runs along rue de Bonnevoie into the center every 10 minutes. From Findel airport, tram T1 direct in about 25 minutes. Walking to Gare Centrale takes 10-15 minutes from most of the neighborhood.
