Who it suits

Remich sits on the Luxembourg bank of the Moselle, facing Germany across the river. Stay here for the wine — Crémant houses like Bernard-Massard, St Martin (with cellar visits in nearby caves), and dozens of smaller Riesling and Pinot Gris producers along the Route du Vin. The river cruise boats from Trier and Schengen call at Remich. It suits couples, older travellers, and anyone doing the Moselle cycle path.

It does not suit anyone wanting the mountains or the capital nearby. Luxembourg City is 30-40 minutes by bus, and there is no train station.

What is walkable

The 3-kilometre Esplanade along the river, several wine bars and restaurants with terraces, the Caves St Martin cellars, and the border bridge to Nennig in Germany. Wormeldange, Ehnen (with the Wine Museum) and Schengen are all a short bus or bike ride away along the valley. Mondorf-les-Bains and its spa are 15 minutes by bus.
