Who it suits

Mondorf-les-Bains sits on the French border in the south-east, built around the Mondorf Domaine Thermal — the country's only thermal spa, fed by 24-degree mineral springs discovered in the 19th century. Stay here if you want a spa weekend, if you are visiting the French border villages, or if you are attending the Casino 2000 next door. The town has a large landscaped park and a small centre with a few restaurants.

It does not suit anyone wanting sightseeing, nightlife beyond the casino, or good public transport into the capital. Buses take around 40 minutes.

What is on foot

The Domaine Thermal (day passes 25-35 EUR), the Mondorf Parc with its rose garden and playgrounds, Casino 2000, and a handful of restaurants along Avenue des Bains. The Moselle at Schengen is 15 minutes by bus, with the small but interesting Schengen European Museum on the site of the 1985 border agreement. France starts at the edge of town.
