Rives de Clausen nightlife district in the valley
Who it suits
Clausen is a small valley neighbourhood downstream of Grund, built around the former Mousel and Clausen breweries now known as Rives de Clausen. Stay here if you want to walk home from a Saturday night out, if you are attending a concert at Melusina, or if you like the mix of old fortifications and converted industrial buildings. It suits under-40s, groups, and anyone who has been to Luxembourg before and wants something less museum-like than the plateau.
It does not suit light sleepers on weekends, families with small children, or anyone expecting a hotel breakfast buffet — options are limited to a handful of properties.
What is on foot
Rives de Clausen bars and clubs, the Trois Glands and Fort Thüngen on the ridge above, MUDAM and the Kirchberg museums (a 20-minute uphill walk or one bus stop), and Neumünster Abbey down in Grund. Robert Schuman's birthplace is signposted on Rue Jules Wilhelm. There is metered street parking and one small garage.
