The Moselle route runs from Schengen in the south to Wasserbillig in the north. The best base for a day is Remich — reachable by bus 175 from Luxembourg Gare in about 40 minutes, free. Domaines Vinsmoselle (a cooperative), Bernard-Massard in Grevenmacher, and smaller producers like Sunnen-Hoffmann in Remerschen offer tastings from $12-20. Cremant de Luxembourg is the real find — sparkling, dry, half the price of Champagne, genuinely competitive quality.
Making a day of it
Combine a tasting with lunch at Restaurant Bacchus in Ehnen or Mathes in Ahn ($40-60 with wine). The riverside cycle path is flat and 15km round-trip from Remich covers three or four cellars. From May, the Marie-Astrid pleasure boat runs between Remich and Schengen for $18. Avoid Sunday if you’re relying on public transport — buses run but tastings often close. Best months: mid-May to end-September when cellars keep proper hours.
