Schengen to Remich: the southern half

Start at Schengen at 10:00 — yes, the village that gave its name to the border agreement, and the European Museum is a free 30-minute stop. Drive north 10 minutes to Wellenstein and Domaines Vinsmoselle, the big cooperative that produces a large share of Luxembourg's crémant. Tasting is 8 euros. Continue to Remich (another 10 minutes) for Caves St Martin, cut into the cliff face — the underground tour ends in the tasting room with three crémants for 12 euros. Lunch at Restaurant du Pont on the river.

Remich to Wormeldange: the northern half

After lunch, drive the Route du Vin north through Stadtbredimus and Ehnen. The Wine Museum in Ehnen is 5 euros and shows how steep slate slopes are still worked by hand. Continue to Wormeldange for Domaine Alice Hartmann, the small estate that consistently rates as Luxembourg's most serious riesling producer — book ahead for a proper tasting (25 euros, worth it). Finish at Domaine Sunnen-Hoffmann in Remerschen on the way back south; they’re the country's oldest certified organic estate.

Sleep in Remich itself at the Hotel des Vignes on the hill above town — rooms from about 130 euros with a valley view — or drive the 30 minutes back to the capital. Mondorf-les-Bains and its spa hotel are 15 minutes inland if you want a soak to end the day.

Can I do this without driving?

Bus 175 runs the wine road from the capital, but you’ll only manage two stops in a day. If you don’t drive, take a small-group tour from the city — Luxembourg City Tourist Office lists reliable operators.
