What closes
Supermarkets, pharmacies (except a rotating on-call one), clothing shops, bookshops, homeware stores and most bakeries shut on Sundays. Galeries Lafayette, Auchan Kirchberg and the small shops of Ville Haute are all dark. Even the big Cactus in Bonnevoie closes. The only reliable exception is the Cactus at Gare railway station, which stays open Sunday mornings until around 1pm and is invaluable for last-minute picnic supplies. A handful of bakeries in each neighbourhood open until 12 or 1pm for fresh bread and croissants.
Banks and post offices also close, though ATMs and the automated Post lockers work.
What stays open
Restaurants and cafes largely open, especially those serving lunch; brunch culture is strong in Clausen and along Rives de Clausen. The Casemates du Bock, MUDAM, the National Museum of History and Art, the Villa Vauban, and Vianden Castle all keep normal Sunday hours (usually 10am-6pm). The free buses and tram run on a slightly reduced but frequent schedule. The Bouneweger Sonndeg flea market runs monthly, and the Glacis flea market runs Saturday mornings, not Sunday. Wine estates along the Moselle in Remich and Wormeldange often open their tasting rooms Sunday afternoons in season.
