Single-room specialists

Hôtel Simoncini in Ville Haute has genuine single rooms from around €110, which is rare in a country where most hotels charge you 90% of the double rate. The art gallery in the lobby gives you something to do at check-in and the location is unbeatable for walking out to dinner alone. Hôtel Vauban a block away is the cheaper equivalent with smaller rooms.

In Gare, Park Inn by Radisson and Ibis Styles both price singles fairly and have busy lobby bars where solo diners are normal. Staybridge Suites Kirchberg has the free evening reception three nights a week — the easiest way to meet people if you are here for a longer stint.

For work trips and longer stays

Adagio Luxembourg City in Gare works well for solos on stays of a week or more — you can cook, do laundry, and the neighbourhood has enough cafés and cheap restaurants to eat differently every night. Staybridge in Kirchberg is the business equivalent. Both are cheaper per night the longer you stay.

Avoid the country castle hotels solo unless you specifically want that quiet — dinner alone in a hushed 20-seat dining room is not for everyone. Avoid also the family-focused Parc Hôtel Alvisse, where solo travellers get lost in the scale. The Ville Haute boutiques and central chains are the sweet spot for anyone travelling alone here.

Frequently asked questions

Is Luxembourg safe for solo travellers at night?

The old town, Kirchberg and Belair are quiet and safe. The area immediately around the Gare (Rue de Strasbourg, Rue Joseph Junck) is worth avoiding late at night — take a slightly different route from the station.

Are there good bars for solo drinking?

Um Piquet in Ville Haute, Konrad Café in Gare, and Scott's Pub in Grund are all fine to sit at the bar alone. Hotel bars at Sofitel and Le Royal are also comfortable for solo drinks.
