Bock vs Petrusse Casemates
The Bock Casemates near the Chemin de la Corniche are the ones to prioritise — $12 entry, open March to November, about an hour to walk through. You get the founding-site views, the deepest tunnels, and the Alzette gorge below. The Petrusse Casemates on the other side of the ramparts are only accessible by guided tour ($15, less frequent) and are less dramatic; skip unless you’re a serious military-history buff.
What to do on the surface
Walk the Wenzel Circular Path — a free two-hour route linking the upper and lower fortifications along the Alzette valley. Start at the Bock, descend into Grund, follow the river past the Neumunster abbey, climb back via Rham Plateau. You’ll cover 1,000 years of fortress-building. The MNAH (Musee National d’Histoire et d’Art) at $8 explains the whole UNESCO-listed complex; do it before the tunnels for context. Combined, it's an easy half-day.
