Getting there
Direct trains from Luxembourg Central to Esch-sur-Alzette run every 15 minutes, taking 30 minutes and costing nothing. For Belval, stay on to Belval-Université, one stop before Esch. Buses 4 and 5 connect Belval and central Esch every 10 minutes if you want to see both.
Belval
The old ArcelorMittal blast furnaces (Haut Fourneaux, free entry to the walking platform) tower 90 metres over the university library and Rockhal concert venue. Climb the free elevator to the top platform for panoramic views of the industrial-turned-academic quarter. The adjacent Musée National de la Résistance ($6) covers Luxembourg under Nazi occupation and moved here from central Esch in 2023.
Central Esch
The Alzette pedestrian street runs 1.5 km through the town with Art Nouveau facades — look for numbers 30, 46, and 105 in particular. The Escher Kulturlaf street art trail marks 30-plus large murals with a downloadable map. Massenoire cultural centre (free) hosts contemporary exhibitions.
