Where to stay in Neudorf

The location

Neudorf runs along the Alzette valley north-east of Clausen, on Rue de Neudorf. It was historically a working-class village of the Grand Duchy and still has that scale: two-storey houses, small Portuguese and Italian restaurants, corner cafes. The neighbourhood is walkable, quiet, and completely off the tourist radar.

Hotels are limited but include Hotel Ibis Styles Luxembourg on Rue Laurent Menager and a scattering of guesthouses. Rooms $95-140, comfortably cheaper than either Kirchberg or Ville Haute.

Who benefits

Neudorf suits people with meetings in Kirchberg who don’t want to pay Kirchberg rates. Bus 16 runs to the plateau every few minutes and takes 10 minutes. It also suits travellers who like a village feel and honest neighbourhood restaurants at $15-20 per main.

It does not suit anyone wanting to walk to old-town sights. The bus into Ville Haute takes about 15 minutes, and it is uphill from the valley. Skip it if you wanted views: Neudorf is at the valley floor with a hillside on either side.

Frequently asked questions

Which Neudorf restaurants are worth booking?

The Portuguese places along Rue de Neudorf serve honest grilled fish and bacalhau at fair prices. Not fancy, but reliable and cheap by Luxembourg standards.

How do I reach Kirchberg from Neudorf?

Bus 16 runs directly up to the plateau in about 10 minutes, or bus 25. Both are free.
