What Merl is
Merl lies west of Belair and Hollerich, built around the Parc de Merl and Parc Merl-Belair, with the Rue de Merl shopping strip and the Cloche d’Or business district on its southern edge. It is a mixed residential quarter with a growing office component. Hotel presence is limited to a few business-oriented properties, aparthotels, and short-term rentals. Rooms $110-160.
The tram now runs along the eastern flank of Merl toward Cloche d’Or, giving direct access to the centre in about 20 minutes. Buses 12 and 21 supplement.
Who chooses Merl
Merl suits business travellers heading to Cloche d’Or offices, families with children who want park access, and anyone staying a week or more who wants supermarkets and everyday shops within walking distance. Aparthotels here are notably cheaper than similar setups in Kirchberg.
It does not suit short sightseeing trips. The neighbourhood has no real tourist draw and evenings are quiet. Choose Ville Haute or Gare if this is your only stay in Luxembourg. Also skip if you don’t want to depend on the tram schedule for every outing.

How long to Ville Haute from Merl by tram?
About 20-25 minutes including the walk to the nearest tram stop. Bus 12 to Hamilius takes similar. The tram is free, buses are free too within Luxembourg.
