Who Clausen is for
Clausen sits in the Alzette valley east of the old town, wrapped around the former Mousel and Clausel brewery complex now known as Rives de Clausen. If you want bars, live music and late-night food inside a five-minute walk, this is the only Luxembourg neighbourhood that delivers that concentration. It suits weekend visitors, groups in their 20s and 30s, and anyone who found Ville Haute too quiet after 10pm.
The Melia Luxembourg is the main hotel here, sitting on the plateau edge with valley-facing rooms around $180-230. Below in the valley itself, lodging thins out to guesthouses and short-term rentals.
Cost and walkability
Clausen prices sit slightly below Ville Haute, roughly $160-220 for four-star equivalents. The catch is topography: the valley floor and the plateau are connected by steep roads and the free Pfaffenthal lift is a 10-minute walk away.
On foot you reach Bock casemates in 8 minutes, Ville Haute in 15, Neumunster Abbey in Grund in 10, and Kirchberg by tram in about 20 including the walk up. It does not suit light sleepers who book near Rue Emile Mousel; the Saturday nightlife runs to 3am.

Honestly, no. The neighbourhood's whole selling point is the bar strip. If you skip that, you are paying for noise and stairs; Ville Haute or Limpertsberg give you better value.
How do I get up to the old town from Clausen?
Walk up Montee de Clausen (steep, 8 minutes) or take bus 23 to Fort Thungen. There is no direct lift from Clausen itself.
