Weather and harvest

September is arguably the best all-round month. Temperatures sit at 18 to 22 degrees, rain is at its yearly low (55 mm), and evenings are still long enough for terrace dinners until mid-month. The Moselle wine harvest runs from mid-September to mid-October depending on the vintage — Riesling picked first, Auxerrois and Pinot Gris later. Cellars in Wormeldange, Remich and Grevenmacher run harvest tastings and open days. The Riesling Open weekend, usually the third weekend of September, opens dozens of cellars for free tastings across all the wine villages.

Rates and what is open

The first ten days still carry Schueberfouer prices, but from around 10 September rates drop sharply. Kirchberg midweek falls to 140-$170, Ville Haute boutiques to 150-190, Gare 3-stars back to 100. Everything remains open — full castle hours, chairlifts, boat trips — until 31 October or later. School holidays end and family sites empty out. Weekends can still fill with German and Belgian short-breakers, particularly for Riesling Open, but midweek in late September is genuinely quiet without anything being closed. Book Moselle guesthouses in Ehnen or Wormeldange ahead if you want to stay among the vineyards.
