Heat and crowds

July can genuinely be hot. Averages sit at 24 to 26 degrees but heatwaves push 32-35, and few Luxembourg hotels have air conditioning in older buildings — check before booking if this matters. Grund at the valley bottom stays cooler than the plateau. School summer holidays begin around 15 July and run to 15 September, so from mid-month family-focused sites (Parc Merveilleux, Bock Casemates, Vianden Castle) get busy. The Blues’n Jazz Rallye in Grund and Clausen on the second Saturday brings 25,000 people to open-air stages — expect road closures and full restaurants.

Rates and what to do

This is high season. Kirchberg 4-stars run 220-$280 midweek, 300+ on weekends. Boutique places in Clausen and Ville Haute hit 200-260. The Gare has the most availability and best value — a clean 3-star like Ibis Styles at around 140. Museums stay open normal hours; a few restaurants close for two-week summer breaks (check ahead for Ma Langue Sourit and other higher-end places). Moselle beaches at Remich and Wasserbillig fill on hot weekends. The Fondation de l’Architecture summer exhibition series is a strong indoor option on 30-degree afternoons.
