Easter and Émaischen

Easter is Luxembourg's first real tourist spike. In 2026 Easter Sunday falls on 5 April, and the Émaischen fair on Easter Monday (6 April) fills Place du Marché-aux-Poissons in Ville Haute with pottery stalls — the peckvillercher clay whistle birds are the traditional buy. Expect crowds from 10:00 to 18:00. Vianden's chairlift and full castle hours resume Easter weekend. Book two months ahead for Ville Haute hotels: the Parc Beaux-Arts and Le Place d’Armes both sell out. Rates during Easter week run 180-$260 at 4-stars, 130-160 at mid-range.

Weather and reopening

April averages 13 to 16 degrees during the day, dropping to 5 at night. Rain is still frequent but showers rather than all-day drizzle. Blossom peaks in the second week — the cherry trees along the Chemin de la Corniche and in Merl park. Boat trips on the Moselle out of Remich restart from 1 April. All castle sites — Bourscheid, Beaufort, Larochette — return to summer opening. School Easter holidays run roughly 4-19 April, so the whole fortnight stays busy at family-friendly places like Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg.

Yes, especially Easter Sunday lunch. Traditional places serving Éisleker Ham or lamb — Chiggeri, Um Plateau, La Table du Belvédère — take bookings from February and fill by mid-March.

Is the Émaischen worth planning a trip around?

Only if pottery and folk tradition interest you. It is genuinely local, not touristy, but the fair itself is small — two squares, maybe 100 stalls. Combine it with a Vianden day trip on Easter Sunday.
