Serious coffee

Independent Café in Bonnevoie is my top pick — proper third-wave roasters, single-origin filter for $5, and a room that isn’t full of laptops. Knopes on Rue du Fort Bourbon does great espresso and small pastries. Konrad Café near the train station is the reliable brunch spot ($16 sets) and roasts its own beans. Skip Starbucks at the station — there's a Kaale Kaffi 100 metres away doing much better.

Terraces and patisseries

Oberweis on Grand-Rue is the classic Luxembourgish patisserie — expensive ($5 for a coffee, $7 for a mille-feuille) but consistently excellent. Namur nearby is the direct rival. For terrace weather, Café des Artistes in Grund does riverside coffee. Chocolate House is Instagram theatre — good hot chocolate but skip if you hate crowds.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I work from a café?

Independent, Konrad, and Kaale Kaffi are laptop-tolerant. Oberweis and Namur are not — they’ll serve you but the vibe says leave.

Do cafés open early?

Chains open 7am. Independent cafés usually 8-9am. Sundays most are closed or open at 10am.
